The Albanian government has canceled concessions for three other
hydropower plants (HPP) given by the former government after the June
23rd elections.
The Ministry of Energy declared that by request of Minister Damian Gjiknuri, the Council of Ministers has canceled the concessions of the hydropower plants in Viliq, Kalivar and Kolosjan, which had been approved by the Albanian government on August 2nd 2013.
The government also canceled the two-point bonus given to the respective companies. According to the official announcement, all three concessions had legal irregularities, such as the failure to respect the bidding deadline and also due to complaints by unsatisfied operators.
For the three cases in question, Minister Gjiknuri ordered a deeper analysis of the responsibility and disciplinary measures to be taken against those who are responsible. The Ministry announces that they have repealed the bonuses for two other HPPs that are under concession procedure, that of Selca 2 and the Gjergjovina HPP. A few days ago, the Minister of Energy canceled the concessions of 7 other HPPs given by the Democratic Party after the June 23rd elections, bringing the total number of canceled concessions to 10.
