Three border policemen of the Kosovo Police were kidnapped this afternoon by the special police units of Serbia on the border between the two countries.

Kosovo Police clarified that the three officials were stationed at the border point known as Tresave/Bare to prevent traffic in the illegal traffic routes in Leposavic, within the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.

“The Kosovo Police emphasizes that the patrol unit has been on official duty at the static point in Bare, deep inside the territory of Kosovo, in order to prevent criminal groups from smuggling on nearby illegal routes”, said the spokesperson of the Kosovo Police, Baki Kelani.

According to the police, the officials announced that they saw masked and armed persons near the point, therefore they asked for assistance, but when the latter arrived at the scene, they found only the official police car.

According to the police, the entry of Serbian forces into the territory of Kosovo is not unusual, as this is done with the aim of destabilizing the country.

All local and international mechanisms, including the international security mission KFOR, have been notified, requiring their release.

Meanwhile the Serbian media have also published images of police officers saying that they were arrested after entering the territory of Serbia.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, stated that Serbia has violated international agreements and principles by demanding that the pressure be shifted to Serbia since “Serbian police illegally crossed the border and are continuing with provocations”.

The abduction of the three Kosovo border policemen by the special police of Serbia has prompted the reaction of the Government of Kosovo, which has decided to ban the entry into Kosovo of all goods of Serbian origin.
