Three Democratic Parties on a lost track

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, commented through an editorial on his
blog about the debate that has involved the Albanian President, Bamir
Topi, the Prime Minister, Sali Berisha and the Red and Black Alliance
leader, Kreshnik Spahiu, considering this as a debate of three
Democratic Parties.

“The Democratic Party’s division in three is a fact that has shocked the government and the public communication of the majority that has remained in government. The desperate efforts of the Prime Minister for saving his ship from sinking in the sea of corruption, targets two rebels that have taken two Democratic Parties with them, detached from the ruined body of his Democratic Party. This is a new war between the kind, in which yesterday’s brothers have become sworn enemies. This is an old war that is being repeated with the same main protagonist, the communist secretary of the Democratic Party, who, as the old poem says, ‘got aged together with his old vices’, vices that since the beginning have determined the banality of the evil incarnated in his Democratic Party”, Rama declared.

The Socialist leader answered to the accusations launched by Prime Minister Sali Berisha for President Topi’s relations with the Socialist Party. Rama says that Topi cooperates with the Socialist Party as much as Berisha cooperates with him, listing the President’s stances on several issues, which, according to Rama, are clearly oriented to the right.

“The Albanian President has held an indifferent stance, in the best case, inconsistent with the Socialist Party. He elected a General Prosecutor oriented towards the right, and he condemned our Parliamentary boycott. Even when he stood silent, while the international community visited his institution for mediating the political crisis, and even when he disregarded the hunger strike of dozens of MPs for the free vote; even on January 21st, when he condemned violence in general, but he did not point his finger to the killers who shot under the Council of Ministers order; and even for other cases, that might have not made the President seem as a guarantee of Sali Berisha, because he has never been such, but he has oriented his Presidency to the right”, the Socialist leader declared.

As regards Kreshnik Spahiu, Rama says that he rebelled politically not because he had any relation with the Socialist Party, but because he finds himself outside the narrow circle of interests of Berisha’s clan.

Rama concludes his speech by inviting the Albanians to the Socialist platform for an Albanian Rebirth, against the offer of the “three Democratic Parties”.

“The best choice for the Albanians today is not between the three Democratic Parties, but between an Albanian Rebirth through the renewed Socialist Party and its coalition, and between a further ruining of Albania under the division of the old Democratic Party”, Rama declared.
