Three days remain until Gruevski decides about coalition move

His only option may be the BDI, although Ali Ahmeti didn’t back away from his requests for the Albanian language.

With 10 Parliamentary seats won after the December 11th elections, Ahmeti’s Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) is decisive for the new coalition. Gruevski and his collaborators are conducting internal talks through various channels to find compromise with his current ally.

Gruevski and Ahmeti have met officially only once, and the reason why no agreement was reached so far, seems the BDI’s request to have Albanian used as second language throughout the entire territory, and for extending the mandate of the Special Prosecution, in order to conitnue the surveillance scandal.

These two conditions seem unacceptable for the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, who has rejected them, saying that this would take the country towards federalization or the creation of cantons.

Practice has shown so far that VMRO-DPMNE and BDI had agreed for the coalition of 2008-2016 since the very first days, by not delaying the execution process.

The Macedonian Constitution says that if Gruevski fails to creat a government, he will have to hand over his mandate to President Ivanov, who will give it two the second party, LSDM.

Constitutional experts say however there may also be new elections.
