PM Rama’s critics against third countries intervening in Western Balkan
have caught the eye of international media outlets, in a time when
concerns about Russia’s impact in the region have increased.
Although Rama did not mention any specific countries, various diplomats have been complaining for a long time now that Moscow is trying to extend its influence in Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and now Albania.
“I am saying nothing new by underlining that there is a new and promising situation in our region, and it is all due to the attractive power we have towards Europe. But our partners should not take this situation for granted, because there are also third actors in the region who want to make use of any hesitation and vacuum that may be created in our relation with the EU”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister made these comments gave these comments before meeting with Angela Merkel, when she valued Albania’s progress positively for opening the EU accession negotiations, by also underlining the implementation of the Vetting Law and the justice reform.
However, Rama’s concern for interferences in Balkan also comes from the German Secret Service Chairman, Bruno Kahl, who said that Russia might intervene with Germany’s elections too, after similar concerns were raised in the USA with the victory of Donald Trump.
