One day before the meeting of the Conference of Chairmen, which will
decide this Thursday about the amends of the Territorial Reform
Commission, the majority seems determined to continue the territorial
division even alone.
Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, declared that the majority showed patience and offered consensus to the opposition, but according to Meta, the opposition confused consensus with veto.
“The opposition has the right to ask a veto instead of the consensus. This is their right, although everyone are free to decide if this is a democratic or tyrannic request”, Meta declared.
However, the Parliament Speaker declared that the opposition has time until Thursday to reflect. Even after the amends in the Territorial Reform Commission, the opposition is welcomed to contribute. Meta declared that everything will be transparent and that this has nothing to do with the next elections. He guaranteed that the Electoral Code will not be changed without the opposition.
As for the opposition’s declarations warning destabilization if the territorial reform will pass unilaterally, Meta referred to a similar position held by the Democratic Party in 1998, when they refused to become part of the passing of Constitution, and today they are saying they are defending it.
“This is not the time to repeat a known behavior of the Democratic Party in the past and our politics in general”, Meta declared.
“Drug military airplains? Ridiculous, let’s leave it to the Prosecution”
Another issue mentioned by the opposition is the involvement of the Armed Forces in the drug traffic. The Parliament Speaker commented it with humor.
“The most recent joke about this was this morning. Two were talking on the phone, and one in downtown was asking the other where he was. He said he was in Tirana’s ring road and he told him to take an airplane and fly it to downtown. I think this is the time to support the Prosecution’s investigation. This is the best method that honors every politicians, especially those who claim they are concerned about this traffic”, Meta declared.
