The opposition has had some intensive backstage hours today. After the
Prime Minister, the Democratic Party as well answered to the sudden
appeal of President Nishani for dialogue.
Earlier the day, the leader of the Republican Party met with US Ambassador Donald Lu, while Majlinda Bregu and Eduard Selami achieved their first victory. Right after this, Lulzim Basha held the delayed meeting of the parliamentary group.
The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk; the Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn and the President of the European Popular Parties, Joseph Daul, had very difficult phone conversations with Lulzim Basha, yesterday and today. They requested to be present with a video-call during the meeting of the Democratic Party. Basha tried to resist this at first, but later he agreed.
Sources said for Top Channel that Mr.Daul asked Basha if he is ready to accept the requests of David McAllister, and this time Basha did not refuse it. In this meeting, besides Joseph Daul, who is interested to know if the DP is open for the McAllister package, Johannes Hahn also asked the party to engage within its political establishment. “This is the right way to fight drug cultivation”, Hahn said in a video conference with the group.
Basha had made a strong declaration from the protest tent, addressing the international partners and telling them that there will be no negotiations for stability without democracy. In the meantime, US Ambassador Lulzim Basha met with the leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, who said after the meeting that there is always room for dialogue, for the sake of the country.
Rama, on the other hand, said from a meeting in Elbasan that they will do everything possible for reason to triumph against fear from justice, so that the Democratic Party can be part of the elections. But first they need to pass the Vetting Law.
President Bujar Nishani then made a sudden appeal for dialogue, to which both Rama and the DP responded positively. Before taking this decision, the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, visited the office of the former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha. This was the time when the DP declared that they would hold a meeting of the Parliamentary Group.
