“The West is not prepared for Russia’s game in Balkan”

EU’s failures with the Western Balkan have created space for Russian intervention, and the Western countries are not prepared to face with it.

British analyst Marko Gaelotti, at the European Council for International relations, said that 2018 could be the year of more serious and more coordinated Russ9ian campaigns in Balkan.

He said for the Voice of America that Serbia will remain the epicenter of the Russian activity.

“They are trying to reinforce their influence position within Serbia in many ways. Ironically, they hope that Serbia will join the EU, and take a Trojan horse in it. If you can see what is happening in Macedonia and other countries, it is clear that they are ready to make use of any chance they can get.

He says that from the Russian point of view, Western Balkan is a way to exert pressure on the EU and NATO.

According to Galeotti, Russia is using every means for their game in Balkan, but they are focusing on three directions: diplomatic, economic and the battle for disinformation.
