The US greets OSCE report: “Judiciary reform is urgent”

The USA supported the annual report of the OSCE presence in Tirana,
together with their findings on the judiciary system, the reforms,
elections and decriminalization.

The US Ambassador at the OSCE, Daniel Baer, declared that the report has given a generally positive evaluation on the local elections. Albanians had the chance to express their free vote. However, the ODIHR mission found irregularities such as group voting, pressure on voters, vote purchase and politicization of institutions and media.

“The US underline that despite the progress reached by removing individuals tied with criminal activities, others continued the race. We appeal the Albanian citizens to insist for their parties to offer candidates with good reputation and who can make the country progress”, said the US Ambassador at the OSCE.

The US representation at the OSCE also values that constitutional reforms will keep people with criminal records far from elections.

The Washington representation in Vienna encouraged the government and the Parliament in realizing the judiciary reform, which should be all inclusive.
