The Albanian justice has failed in 241 sessions to unblock the trail of
Dritan Dajti, the defendant accused of killing four Police officers
during a firearm exchange.
The process is still unresolved, although there are dozens of documents sent at the Ministry of Justice, the High Council of Justice and the National Chamber of Advocacy. The most recent document is dated October 8th, sent to the Court of Serious Crimes by the National Chamber of Advocacy, directed to Minister nasip Naco. The document looks help for finding a lawyer for Dajti, since the list had been exhausted without success.
For the President of the Court of Serious Crimes, Sander Simoni, the situation of the Albanian justice in the Dajti case is intolerable.
In search of a lawyer, the Court of Serious Crimes published a list of public defenders who were not available or who refused to defend Dajti. The National Chamber of Advocacy asks the Court of Serious Crimes to consume the “Mainly” list of lawyers and then appoint a public defender. The Court will answer next Wednesday.
“The National Chamber of Advocacy has the obligation to find a lawyer for the defendant. As Court, we don’t have the authority to oblige lawyers to take this case. If no one will accept it, we will address to the Ministry of Justice to make the necessary changes in the Penal Code or the Advocacy Law, since the current changes have not given any result in the case in question”, Simoni declared.
Besides the long list of failed sessions, the process marked another interesting and strange fact this year. A lawyer declared that he would defend Dajti only of the Court would give him 200.000 EUR for the service. Another strange fact took place when the court summoned and was waiting for a public defendant who had passed away.
“I have tried to make this problem visible by intervening in the respective institutions and the public opinion, because the situation is intolerable”, Simoni declared.
On his behalf, Dajti asked the Court to grant him public defense, since he has no financial means to do it.
