The three main parties fail to agree on Electoral Reform, opposition leaves room

The Electoral Reform Commission gathered this Monday, where all parties presented a total of 36 requests.

The Socialist Movement for Integration wants open list proportional representation, while the Democratic Party debated with the Socialists for the electronic voting and ballot count, and then left the room.

“The Socialist Party has murdered this reform. There can be no free elections without this reform. The Democratic Party supports the decriminalization and funding of political parties, but, without this, all of it remains a farce and will have zero impact on the citizens’ vote. If we apply electronic voting, party commissioners will not have the entire process in their hands anymore. We want citizens to be identified with their fingerprints, without using ID cards at all”, said Oerd Bylykbashi, after leaving the offices of the National Assembly.

Socialist Taulant Balla said that the DP is trying to avoid the OSCE and ODIHR recommendations. “The two pilot-projects that we used in 2013 both failed, and I wanted them to identify the reasons of this failure”, he said.
