The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali berisha, after meeting the Socialist
Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta, agreed to give all efforts
for electing a President with the widest consensus possible.
Berisha invited the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, to authorize two collaborators to discuss the process.
“I authorized Patozi and Spaho.R ama could authorize his collaborators for having constant contacts about this process. We are looking for a civil, responsible and Constitutional process”, Berisha declared.
The Prime Minister expressed the majority’s will to give all efforts for achieving the presidential election since the first round, in order to have a serious and decent candidate, but he mentioned no specific name.
Berisha valued that in the meeting that he held with Meta, the main ally of the Democratic Party in the coalition, they agreed to elect the President through consensus.
Earlier it was Meta who declared that the result of the meting with Berisha focuses on considering the presidential election as the culminating result of a process.
“We expressed the determination of the SMI for contributing to this process, so that it can be as consensual as possible, in order to make all efforts for electing the president in teh first round and giving a maturity message to the Albanian politics, to our political class and the Albanian citizens, but also to our international partners that will make the evaluation”, Meta declared.
The SMI leader declared that they didn’t speak about concrete names in this meeting, but about the significance of having a consensual process.
“The will for realizing this process could bring new names that could be acceptable for more MPs that the majority. For us it is important to judge where the names should come from. It is also important the sincerity of the will for having a president that is supported from more MPs than those of the majority”, Meta declared.
