The Albanian police gave today more details about the attack that took place yesterday morning in Tirana where lawyer Sokol Mêngjesi was left gravely injured by the violence.
The four attackers have been identified as Romario Tabaku 26 years old, Dorian Alia 32 years old, Drivald Alia 21 years old, Elton Kasaj 33 years old.
The police clarified that Romario Tabaku drove the perpetrators the scene with his vehicle.
The director of the Tirana Police, Tonin Vocaj, informs that the motivation for the violence was a civil court process for a property issue, in which the victim was part.
Vocaj informs that, following the investigations, Dritan Nano, 58 years old, a resident of Tirana, who is suspected of being the organizer of this serious criminal event, has been detained.
The authors were not supossed to have been paid, but they have family ties and friendships with each other, while the plan is thought to have been organized a month ago by Dritan Nano.
The unmasked aggressors ambushed their victim yesterday, as Sokol was walking in an area frequented by many citizens and covered by security cameras, where he was hit him several times in the head, leaving him unconscious.
The perpetrators then left on foot through the alleys where a vehicle was waiting for them. While the lawyer was urgently transported to the hospital, where it is reported that he is in serious condition and was placed in an induced coma.
The police have not yet officially stated the motives of the violence against the lawyer, but the main suspicions are that it is related to his duty.
For months Sokol Mêngjesi has been the legal defender of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha of the opposition DP, in the case of the privatization of the former sports club “Partizani”, and along with Klodian Skenderaj, they are Mirel Mërtiri’s lawyers in the case of corruption with the Incinerator of Tirana. He also has an academic career at the University of Tirana, and is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Law.
