The ferry “Ankara” with 169 passengers on board arrived in Bari, Italy, after a
collision with the cargo ship “Reina 1”, which held a Maltese flag but
had Turkish owners.

The tragedy took place 20 miles from the Port of Durres, this Thursday around 1 am.

The family members of the passengers were waiting for their relatives. Some of them had communicated with their relatives on the shore.

“They said that the ferry had a collision with another ship. We heard a noise, but were unable to understand what was going on”, says one of the passengers.

The others witnesses say that the “Reina 1” sank in a few minutes.

“I saw a ship and heard a strong bang. I woke up and saw that the ferry was over the small ship”, says another.

“We heard a strong bang. Went out and saw two boats that had taken half of the people. The people were on the ship and jumped in the sea”, another passenger says.

The destination of the Reina 1 was Montenegro. The ship had a collision with the ferry “Ankara” that had 169 passengers.

The Turkish “TGC Barbados” and the Albanian authorities are continuing to find the eight crew members that are considered lost.
