The hunt for Serbian goods

Kosovo Police will seize all Serbian goods that have been imported after July 20th.

This is part of the action plan issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, for implementing reciprocity measures with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. More than 100 inspectors are searching business subjects for goods that have been imported after July 20th. This action will continue until the end of August.

“We will take measures against everyone that violates law”, declares Ruzhdi Shehu, chief inspector for the Kosovo market.

According to the inspector, they have not found Serbian goods that have been imported after the date when the Ministry of Trade and Industry decided to ban them. On the other hand, business subjects are saying that Serbian goods are being replaced day after day with domestic goods and from other countries, therefore there is no panic among the buyers.

“The Serbian goods are sold and we have started to replace them with domestic goods”, says Vegim Beqiri, sales director of a private supermarket.

However, the detailed report o the Market Inspectorate will publish the final result by the end of August.

On July 20th the Government of Kosovo approved the decision of the Trade Ministry for stopping goods from Serbian Institutions to enter Kosovo, while Bosnian goods will pay a 10% tax.

The economic reciprocity against these two countries came after they refused to recognize the goods with Kosovo Custom stamps, although both countries are CEFTA members, an agreement that guarantees free trade.
