The environment Minister, Fatmir Mediu, together with his homologues in
Macedonia and Montenegro, have started the implementation of a project
that helps stopping the flooding of the lower part of Drin. The project
costs 10 million USD.
“Albania has realized 10 million USD investments in the Buna part that is connected with Drin. We are also cooperating with the Ministry of Agriculture of Macedonia and Montenegro for reaching long-term investments with the help of institutions such as the world bank”, Mediu declared.
The floods, the fires and droughts are phenomena which Albania has been facing recently, and the Minister asked the creation of a strategy for changing the climate.
“We are facing unstable temperatures, fire seasons, rains that create cascades and power supply that cause floods. We have gathered today to end the project that could help our countries”, Mediu underlined.
During 2010 and 2011, most of the residential areas near the Buna River were flooded several times.
