The Council for the Immunity and Mandates will decide this Saturday
regarding the immunity of former Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri.
This was decided by the Chairman of the Council, Gramoz Ruci, who communicated the decision after hearing all parties, including the opposition and Prosecution.
The meeting started with the lawyer of Saimir Tahiri, who demanded to postpone the session, who said that they need three days for a reasonable defense. This cause debates among the majority and the opposition.
Enkelejd Alibeaj said that this is the alibi of the majority for enabling impunity. “You had time to study the case, because you had the file, and there are no new elements, as you state. This is why we need to finalize the procedure”, he declared.
Bledi Cuci, from the Socialist Party, said that based on the law and Constitution, any MP who is being accused has the right to defense. He reminded how the Socialist party made a similar request against Lulzim Basha in 2007, and the Commission led by the DP took two months and six sessions to take a decision.
Eduard Halimi said that in 2007, Lulzim Basha accepted to have his immunity removed. And in 2007, the Prosecution did not demand Basha’s arrest, because he was not being accused of being involved in drug traffic.
The Prosecutor of this case declared that they have presented the requests, arguments and reasons why they want the authorization for his arrest, a request that Chairman Ruci decided to take in consideration this Saturday at 10:00 am, not on Monday.
