The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi declared that the Serbian roadblocks in Northern Kosovo are about to end.
During an interview for the Voice of America, Thaçi warned for counteractions by the government of Prishtina in cooperation with KFOR.
“The roadblocks have their hours counted, otherwise the government of Kosovo will use all constitutional options”, Thaçi declared.
Kosovo Prime Minister declared that at border checkpoint no. 31 there are NATO troops, Kosovo Police and UNMIK agents.
“Due to the circumstances that were created by criminal structures, we have a military restricted situation, where no one can pass without being identified and searched for weapons or for the trading goods”, Thaçi underlined.
According to him, these searches have stopped smuggling in northern border checkpoints, especially that of petroleum derivatives.
“On the other hand, smuggle at border checkpoints 1 and 31 have been stopped at 100%. The entire border area is being controlled by NATO authorities, while the secondary roads that are used for smuggle have also been blocked”, Thaçi declared.
Emphasizing that for establishing law and order in north, the government will not make compromises with anyone, the Prime Minister excluded the option of dividing Kosovo.
“There is no risk for a division of Kosovo. There have been plans and specific projects from Belgrade, but this will never happen. We have a new reality today”, declared Thaçi, warning for a domino effect if Kosovo borders will be endangered.
“Every pretense for changing the borders with Kosovo will affect six states in our region. The north is a Kosovo problem”, Thaçi declared.
To the question if USA was informed about the operation of the Special Units in North, the Prime Minister answered:
“USA has supported any initiative for extending law and order in the entire Kosovo territory, same as Brussels. For this we are very grateful to them”.
