The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European
Parliament sent a letter to the Head of the Nobel Prize Committee,
Torbjorn Jagland.
The group proposes for the Nobel Prize the head of the European Union Foreign Policy, Catherine Ashton; the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, and the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.
“The relation between the two main actors, Kosovo and Serbia, are very delicate, but they exist. The efforts for normalizing the relations between the two countries have been unprecedented and have created the chance of a permanent peace and cooperation in the region”, the letter says.
According to this group, it is not simply a reward for the progress that has been reached, but also a motivation, the last push that is needed for peace in the long term.
The group members say that this would respect the goal of Alfred Nobel was to hand over this prize to those who would do all they could for fraternity between countries.
The letter of the European Parliament representatives follows that of a group of United States congressmen who made the same request.
