Hashim Thaci, former Prime Minister of Kosovo, incumbent Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, declared that the efforts to
change the history of Milosevic’s genocide through the Special Court are
futile.
During his speech at the UN Council of Security in New York, Thaci spoke about the huge flux of immigrants early this year and expressed discontent about Serbia opening borders with Hungary. He said there is enough prove on the internet showing that the Serbian police accepted bribes to help with the illegal immigration.
Thaci underlined the expectancies of Kosovo for the EU visa liberalization, as the last country in Balkan that still needs visas for the Schengen area. “The freedom of movement is one of the key factors that increases frustration”, Thaci declared.
He asked the Serbian side to be more serious in the dialogue process and not get engaged in destructive propaganda, which often puts the dialogue process in danger.
“I have met with the Serbian leadership and the Foreign Minister for at least four times. The time of discriminatory propaganda against Kosovo is over. We must start seeing each other in the eye and speak like neighbors”, Thaci declared.
Thaci also spoke about the recent developments in Macedonia, saying that Kosovo condemned the violence and insists that any problem in Balkan should be resolved through dialogue and institutions. He underlined that Kosovo will never support those who want to destabilize the region, whoever they might be, and that the Ohrid Agreement is the only framework that they support in Macedonia.
Thaci also answered to the accusations that Kosovo and Albania are working for Greater Albania:
“You can hear more about Greater Albania in Belgrade than in Prishtina. We won against the regime of Milosevich, and we also received independence with the UN negotiator, Marti Ahtisari. We will also win the battle for integration in NATO and the EU. Those who are against NATo and against the EU, they want to stop the progress and Balkan and we will not allow them ruin the success that Balkan achieved after the independence of Kosovo”, Thaci declared.
