Thaci announces elections in Serbian-majority communes

The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, announced the extraordinary elections for the four communes of Serbian-majority in Northern Kosovo.

The elections in Northern Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Leposavic and Zvecan will be held on May 19th.

The Mayors of these communes resigned last year to protest the decision of the Kosovo government for imposing a 100% tax on goods imported from Serbia.

The government of Kosovo has insisted that the tax will remain in power until Serbia recognizes Kosovo.
