Test results for Ilia Kareli

16 days after the Albanian man who had killed a Greek prison guard, died
in a Greek prison after being tortured by 15 guards, coroners published
tests made to his heart, showing that he had a coronary disease and a
problem in the valves, which had caused his death after it was combined
with the broken ribs.

Lab tests showed that no electroshock had been used against Kareli, and that the wound on his hand is very old.

After these results there are no comments about the further orientation of the case against the 15 prison guards, who have been accused of torturing Kareli for hours and causing his death.

SMI: Thorough investigation for Kareli’s death

After the Minister of Justice declared in Parliament that he asked the Greek authorities to make justice for the murder of the Albanian prisoner, the SMI reacted by saying that those who are responsible should be brought to justice.

“Since the prosecutors of both countries have worked hard and shed light on this death, with a high and objective media awareness, we are encouraging a quick conclusion of the investigation phases, so that those who are responsible are brought to justice. There should be zero tolerance for any violence and inhuman treatment in prisons”, declared the Head of the SMI Parliamentary Group, Petrit Vasili.
