Tax Office: Lezhe market, completely informal

The General Tax Office of Lezhe says that businesses that have activity
in the Lezhe market have been tolerated for years by not paying any tax.

“No tax has been paid there for the past 10 or 11 years, or some kind of rent for their business locations. On the contrary, they pay a mini-rent, if we could call it like that, which is 2000 ALL each month, declared Flobens Dilaveri, Vice Director of the Tax Office.

The Tax Office undertook an operation a few days ago for the registration of 360 subjects of Lezhe at the Regional Directory of Taxes, but the salesmen are against this decision. They say they cannot afford the taxes with their minimal revenues.

“We have followed this practice even in other markets of our country and there has been no problem. We have a group of people who are making pressure for not paying taxes”, Dilaveri declared.

The Tax Office says that the issue is being used politically, and they ask Parliament Members to distance themselves. Dilaveri underlines that the administration is determined to respect the law.

“The administration is determined to fight informality in Albania and makes no distinctions. There has been no distinction here. This is a normal situation which turned into abnormal by specific interests”, underlined Flobens Filaveri.

According to Dilaveri, the total obligation that these businesses will pay is just 200 ALL per day.

Lezhe, salesmen protest
“We verified in several towns and they want taxes only from us”

The Lezhe salesmen are still protesting against the Tax Office. The market is closed and the Tax Office has announced that if they work without license, their goods will be seized. Some of the salesmen declared that they have made verifications in Lushnje, Fier, Durres and Berat, and they say that this operation is taking place only in Lezhe.
