Albanian farmers will face stronger competition from regional products.

The Parliament approved a law that removes Custom taxes for agricultural products from countries of the region. Selami Xhepa explains that for Albania this is an obligation that comes from CEFTA free trade agreement.

Agriculture is the sector with the highest trade deficit, and also in deterioration each year. In the first four months of this year, Albania’s agricultural import was 10 times larger than export. But the government says that this tax removal will not deteriorate balance.

CEFTA agreement was signed several years ago between Central Europeean and Eastern European countries, with support from the European Union, aiming to increase trade between these countries.
