The Trans Adriatic Pipeline which will go through Albania for 215
kilometers, starting its first phase in the Fier-Berat area, while roads
and bridges have been repaired. The pipeline is expected to start
operating by 2020.
High-level local officials and TAP directors gathered in a symbolic ceremony and listed the economic profits of Albania as part of this gas corridor.
160 million EUR will be added each year to our country’s GDP after the pipeline will start operating, while 1700 jobs have been created so far, with 90% of the employees Albanian.
Ian Bradshaw, General Director of TAP, said that 92% of the work has been done with the rehabilitation of bridges and roads. 12 km of pipes have been installed so far, and there are more than 1700 people hired, 90% of them Albanian.
PM Rama said that there have been several negotiations, often strict ones, so that we can have profits equal to Greece. “We don’t want to simply have gas go through our country. In 20 years, every heating system should be with gas in Albania”, he said.
