The TAP pipeline might might bring back to life one of the biggest
investments that failed in the energy area, such as the Vlore
thermo-central. The Swiss government will fund 6 million EUR for raising
the gas capacity in our country.
The Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, said that the feasibility study will be done within the year.
“This has been a failed project for many year, designed to work with oil and gas. But there has been no gas. The gas connection is very important for this project to come to life. The project undertakes to make a feasibility study for connecting the Fier gas exit with the Vlore central, turning it into an important energy producing unit”, Gjiknuri said.
In fact, the Energy Corporation has not taken yet the Vlore thermo-central plant from the building company, since there have been problems with the cooling implants. This project started in 2004 with a 90 million EUR loan from the World Bank which is being paid by Albanian tax payers.
The thermo-central plant could not produce energy because of the high cost. After 12 years, it needs other money to adopt to the oil technology.
