The National Council of Territory (NCT) approved the permit that allows
the Trans Adriatic Pipeline consortium to build the gas network that
turns Albania into an important crossroad of the gas route from
Azerbaijan to Western Europe.
The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, declared that TAP was able to win over every political pressure, and today they are planning to start a construction that mounts up to 40 billion USD in total.
“The pressures will be history, because this is the biggest project. For the first time in history, the bigger fish failed to eat the smaller one. TAP will start with a 40 billion USD of initial investment”, Berisha declared.
The Albanian Prime Minister added that the project which supplies gas to Albania from a friend country, such as Azerbaijan, will permanently resolve the energy problems.
“The project will have a great value for the Albanians, because it will supply gas from a country with which we have a traditional friendship. Historians will find the coincidence how Caucasian Albania is bringing gas to Balkan Albania. This is a project that connects two Albanias”, Berisha declared.
The project that connects Albania with the natural gas of the Southern Corridor will start next year and will end in 2018. According to the Prime Minister, in 2019 Albania will receive the first gas from the Shah Deniz 2 fields.
“The project gives a final solution to Albania’s energy problems, because gas will supply industries and families for heating and cooking appliances with a much lower price”, Berisha declared.
Other projects approved in the National Council of Territory are the development permit for the construction of 11 hydropower plants along the Curraj river, Kukes district, as well as several other general plans in Durres, Tirana, Gjirokastra and Shkoder.
