As expected, the Shah Deniz consortium has made official its decision to
select the Trans Adriatic Pipeline project to bring gas in Europe from
the Caspian sea.
The shareholders announced this decision for the international media today, in Baku. Right after the news was made official, the Director of TAP, Kjetil Tungland, declared that this is a historic decision.
“TAP was the most economically and technically advanced project for bringing the Caspian gas to Europe. The constant support from the European Commission and governments of the countries included in the project shows the significance of TAP in the energy agenda of Europe”, Tungland declared.
The 870 kilometers long pipeline starts in the Turk and Greek border, goes through greece and Albania and ends in Southern Italy. This course will supply with gas southeastern Europeans countries, including Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Croatia.
The pipeline shareholders are the Swiss “AXPO”, the Norwegian giant “Statoil” and “Eon Rurgas” from Germany. But the number of shareholders will increase in the upcoming months, with British Petroleum joining the project, together with the Azerbaijani State Company and the French oil giant “Total”.
The inclusion of these companies in this project is the best guarantee for making quick funds for this work that might start operating on January 1st 2019.
