Talasmia patients cannot find blood

19/03/2014 00:00

Hundreds of talasemic children risk their lives because our hospitals
have no blood. Some of them are unable to go to school for days, and
stay all day in bed.

The Chairman of the Talasemia Association, Musa Zeneli, appeals all Albanian citizens to donate blood, since hundreds of children are in life-threatening conditions.

“The situation is critical. We can hardly get 20% or 30% of the blood that we need. Patients have an average hemoglobin level of 7, which is a danger zone for their lives. There are patients with a hemoglobin level at 6 and 5. This is the time for us to ask for help. Someone is in life threatening conditions”, says Musa Zeneli, chairman of the Talasemia Association.

The Chairman of this association asks the help of every citizen who can donate blood.

“If a grown patient needs 500 grams, he receives 200 grams or he doesn’t receive anything at all. I plead citizens to donate blood”, Zeneli declared.

Albania has 600 talasemia patients who need blood every day.
