Tahiri writes to Nishani

The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, addressed another letter to the
Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, as Chairman of the High Council of
Justice, expressing his concern about the consequences caused by some
Court Decisions, “which, if not absurd, bring a high level of
irresponsibility”.

The Minister’s reaction comes after the event of three days ago, when two citizens were executed, one of whom with severe criminal precedents and who was released from prison with a court decision issued some time ago.

The Minister notifies the President that a Judge Panel of the Tirana Court of Appeal, composed of judges Edmond Gogo, Fatmira Hajdari and Gramoz Levanaj, released Gjin Nika by changing his arrest measure, while he was accused for serious criminal acts.

Although the Court of First Instance had decided to leave him in prison, the Court of Appeal did not take in consideration the testimonies of the citizens, but decided to free him.

The Minister then underlined that Gjin Nika and another citizen were killed in a mafia-style assassination three days ago, which could have been avoided if the Court of Appeal would have left him in prison.

The Interior Minister asks the President to intervene and encourage the High Council of Justice to review the verdict of judges Edmond Gogo,Fatmira Hajdari and Gramoz Levanaj, and create institutional pressure for avoiding acts that damage the rule of law, threaten the public’s safety and make the work of the police more difficult.
