The former Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, declared today that the investigation of the Italian justice, which found him not guilty, was the reason why he stayed silent for one year while he was being accused about drug traffic in cooperation with the Habilaj group.

Tahiri accused journalists, analysts, politicians and ambassadors of using slander against him: “They used to say that I should be in prison not because they were saying it, but because the Italian anti-mafia was saying it”, Tahiri declared.

The former Minister said that he is the only Albanian politician who was investigated simply because he was mentioned by two traffickers who turned out to be their distant relatives. “While other politicians, like Lulzim Basha, Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, remain untouched after stealing millions of Euros and ordering killings”, he said.

Tahiri said that he expected the Albanian Prosecution to continue with the investigations the soonest possible: “If seven prosecutors are not enough, make them 70, but conclude the investigation so that we can have the truth. My entire family was investigated, friends and relatives. They investigated everything, how I paid my dinners and holidays”, the former Minister said.
