The Serbian President, Boris Tadic, has softened his stance regarding
Kosovo by admitting that the complete return under the sovereignty of
Serbia is impossible.
But on the other hand, he underlined that his country will not withdraw from the negotiations without achieving any benefit from this issue.
“Serbia has no illusions for returning Kosovo to the Serbian Republic system, as it was before 2000. But Serbia will not withdraw from the negotiations and from insisting for a stable solution”, Tadic declared.
During an interview for the daily Serbian newspaper, Dnevnik, the Serbian President declared that the option for a possible division of Kosovo is not a real solution.
Last week, when visiting Skopje, Tadic declared that the Kosovo issue must not become an obstacle for Serbia’s integration in the EU structures.
In a joint press conference with his Macedonian homologue, Djordje Ivanov, Tadic declared that Kosovo has a legitimate interest for Serbia.
“Serbia has legitimate interests, which cannot and does not want to give up. The issues with Kosovo must not be an obstacle for the European future of Serbia”, Tadic declared.
Earlier this month, Tadic rejected the proposition of the international factor, for giving up from the Resolution 1244.
On 9 December, the European Union refused to grant Serbia the EU candidate status, due to the violence in Northern Kosovo that culminated with several KFOR soldiers getting wounded.
Tadic and the Serbian Interior Minister, Ivica Dacic, blamed Brussels for the failure, arguing that they had conditioned their status with the recognition of Kosovo, an accusation that the EU denied.
