Serbian President Boris Tadic confirmed the arrest of the most wanted war criminal, Ratko Mlladic.

“Today we ended a long and difficult period of our history. We have cleaned the name of our country and of all Serbians wherever they might be”, Tadic declared.

According to him, the search and arrest operation showed that Serbia is a safer place, and that the rule of law functions.

“The arrest of Mlladic increases Serbia’s moral credibility in front of the entire world. I am proud for this operation, and I congratulate everyone that was involved. The arrest of Mlladic was achieved in Serbia”, Tadic declared.

The head of the Serbian State declared that his country closed an important chapter. Tadic gave no details for the arrest operation, but he declared that these ti will be reported by security services.

The arrest of Ratko Mlladic took place one day after the first report of International Criminal Court, which, according to some EU members, was vital for Serbia’s EU integration.

The Prosecutor Serge Brammerts considered Serbia’s efforts for capturing war criminals as “insufficient”, more specifically for the criminals Goran Hadzic and Ratko Mlladic.

Ratk Mlladic, the former Bosnian-Serb general wanted since 1995, will face the International Criminal Court for the genocide against 8000 Muslim Bosnians in Srebrenica on July 1995.
