The European Social Democrats congratulated the Albanian left for the deep victory.

“I congratulate Edi Rama and the Socialist Party, and also Ilir Meta and the Socialist Movement for Integration for their clear victory. They offered a real choice to the Albanian people. I trust that this new progressive government will face the challenges of Albania, especially corruption, which is wide spread, and also the economic difficulties”, declared Hannes Swoboda, head of the Social Democrats at the European Parliament.

Swoboda encouraged the next government to continue the European Integration path, and declared that this is the time for Albania to be accepted as a candidate country that can start working for the European transformation.

“I’m sorry for the death of one political activist on the election day. Even this time the elcetoral process was darkened by irregularities, including the unstable Central Election Commission. The electoral process has improved more, but it doesn’t fully comply with the European standards”, Swoboda declared.

Libor Roucek, vice president of the Socialists and Democrats at the European Parliament say that he hopes to see a closer cooperation with the opposition, in order to guarantee the candidate status without delays.
