Data from the European Survey on Skills and the Labor Market in Albania showed that almost one in three employees have a higher education than their workplace requires, while more than one in ten (12%) say they are underqualified for the current job position.

In total, nearly 40% of Albanian salaried employees have a level of education that does not match the work they do.

“Overqualification starts in the morning, you get up in the morning, drink a coffee brought by the waiter who is a lawyer, an economist, and this is where the sadness of the morning begins, the bitterness. Students often ask us, we are doing this and that, where are we going. Even in the public administration they have over qualification. What is worrying about over-qualification, there are individuals who are paid less than they deserve” – says the employment expert, Helena Halilaj.

-How much does Career Counseling help?

“Career counseling is also very necessary in high schools, as it guides young people to the market profile that guarantees finding a job. In our current employment policy, the sun of conscience of employers has not yet fallen on these individuals who are well qualified to make the institution healthier. It does not matter if it is a private or state institution”, adds the expert.
