The shortage of judges at the Supreme Court, as warned by the Court’s
president on a Top Channel interview a few weeks ago, has created a
stalemate at the third defree of the judiciary.
Two trials, the one against MP Tom Doshi and the other again Alfred Peza, were postponed due to the fact that each judge panel had two members missing.
“The Supreme Court was almost paralyzed, because there are no judges to create the udge panel. That’s why they are postponed indefinitely”, said Ferid Mucaj, Tom Doshi’s lawyer.
The Supreme Court now has to face a stock of 20.000 cases which are still queued for review. Four members of this court resigned this July, after their mandates expired, while one other Judge was sentenced for corruption.
