At 13:00 am, at the headquarters of the State Bank took place an extraordinary meeting of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania, to review once again the bank situation after the robbery three weeks ago.
Live from bank headquarters, the journalist Lira Burgija has announced this information.
Juli Krisafi: In fact, this is the second meeting of the Council within a week, which should meet regularly once a month…
TCH: Yes, this is an extraordinary meeting, as is its situation, extraordinary, after the theft scandal of the amount of 713 million ALL by the Bank of Albania. Although the issue is under investigation, there is a lot of pressure from the public to find the internal responsibility for theft, which occurred in a systematic way. According to the information we have, the meeting is expected to analyze responsibilities, while it remains to be seen what will be the conclusion of the meeting.
Juli Krisafi: What can be expected from this meeting? I have in mind here the subject of the debate of the day: will the governor be discharged or not?
TCH: Council meetings are not only closed, but almost hermetic, because of the importance of the decisions made in them. Up to this moment we have no information about what was discussed specifically, but we can say that no surprises are expected, at least in relation to the Governor. Besides public opinion, which signed a petition to Parliament demanding the dismissal of the governor, even some of the exponents of the policy agree to change the direction of the bank. Politics in general has had a lukewarm response, seeking inquiry into the matter, but without pointing the finger of responsibility to the governor. In this context, therefore, we cannot expect any surprises from the Governor, such as resignation. Even the governor Fullani, in an interview given to the press today, did not give any indication that we can expect his resignation, but he has praised his work and staff, speaking for maximum responsiveness.
Before the meeting, one of the members of the Supervisory Board was asked whether it would require Fullani’s dicharge, but did not give a specific answer, saying that would speak after the end of the meeting, which means that we have to wait for its completion to find out what will happen.
At the last meeting of the Council, its members, except Ermelinda Meksi, expressed support for the governor Ardian Fullani. Meanwhile, the process of signatures gathering is taking place, organized by civil society, to ask the Parliament his discharge.
