Tirana may not have seaside as summer tourist attraction, but there are
plenty of museums and art galleries, which are open to visitors.
Foreign visitors have shown most interest, but Albanians are present as well.
The National Historic Museum, the biggest in the country, has received 6400 visitors in the past three months. Being in the center of Albania’s capital, this Museum makes the first presentation of Albania to foreigners.
The National Art Gallery is another meeting point for figurative art. 6650 visitors have entered this gallery since May, 70% of whom are foreigners and also Albanians living abroad.
The newest museum, the “House of Leaves”, that has been operating for the past 2 months at the building once used by the communist regime to spy the population, has raised interest among 3200 visitors, 1700 domestic and 1500 foreigners.
“The US and Italian embassies have brought their personal as well, and even visitors. There is a close cooperation with the municipality for promoting the museum”, says Etleva Demollari, Director of the “House of Leaves” museum.
