The Summer Day, now turned into a national holiday, has brought
celebrations in many cities of our country, but the main one remains
that of Elbasan.
The activities culminated on the town’s square, with concerts and several events organized by the municipality.
“Happy Summer Day, and let’s wish for good health, joy and happiness for everyone. May this Summer Day bring good luck to all Albanian citizens. May this be the year of change, the year of a city without pollution and with an improved infrastructure. Let’s hope that this year will be the year of the fight against employment and poverty”, declared the Mayor of Elbasan, Qazim Sejdini.
Based on the old tradition of this pagan holiday, people stay awake to welcome the first day of the warm season.
Elbasan had dozens of thousands visitors today, who gathered to watch concerts and carnivals organized in the city. Celebrations with flowers and the traditional dessert “ballakum” were seen everywhere.
The Summer Day was also celebrated in Korca, where people lit fires as a symbol for the end of the cold season. This ritual is then followed by dances and music.
The Summer Day was also celebrated in Peshkopia, another city that has it as an old tradition.
