Unexpected fires have started tis afernoon in the forests of the coastal areas of Fier and Vlora in the southwest of Albania. Aided by the winds the flames have spread rapidly, endangering the homes of nearby villagers.
A fire broke out this evening near Hambar village in Cakran near Fier, endangering several homes.
According to the residents, the fire first appeared in an area with bushes and trees near the Vjosa river. The flames spread rapidly due to strong winds.
Residents say that such a fire has not been seen before in the area, as they have emphasized he scare as the flames came very close to the houses.
According to them, it was the quick intervention of the fire service that made it possible to avoid the greater danger.
Meanwhile, according to the head of the fire service near Fier Municipality, Zija Hyka, three fire engines and 15 officers are working to extinguish the flames.
In Vlora, there was also a fire in the evening inside the territory of the Soda forest.
The fire has affected a pine area as it is spreading rapidly, also favored by the strong coastal wind.
The fire is suspected to be intentional as there are no natural causes for its initiation, according to local reports. Police were at the scene monitoring the situation.
