Subventions for new cars, plan for reducing air pollution

The government will offer subventions for those who have old vehicles
and who cannot afford newer ones, in order to help reducing the air
pollution.
“This initiative foresees assistance to 15.000 users and mounts up to 15 million EUR”, says Laureta Dibra, responsible for the clime changes at the Ministry of Environment.
But the government also plans to change the tax system, based on the type of cars.
“Those that pollute more, have to pay more, and new vehicles that use Euro 4 and Euro 5 fuel may be excluded from taxes”, Dibra added.
Air pollution remains high in Albania, above the norms of the EU. The national draft for managing the air quality is being discussed with the interested groups.
