The Albanian government promises to remove Albania from the US State
Department “country under observation” list for human traffic, becoming
the only country in the continent that is part of that classification.

The same evaluation was made by the progress-report of this year, in which Albania is recommended to fight the phenomena as a condition to advance to the European Union path. On the day against Human Traffic, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama,  asked ambassadors to spare bitter words about Albania at least today, because the new government is aware of the alarming situation.

“We are facing a dramatic situation and the truth will be said, not matter how bitter it is, if we want an effective remedy. We are determined to cure this wound with an intensity that has been unknown so far”, Rama declared.

While listing a series of factors that created space for increasing the traffic of women, girls and children, such as the crippled justice institutions and their failure to coordinate their work with the police, Rama underlined the distribution of millions of EUR given by the European Union.

“Same as in all other areas, the distribution of funds dedicated by our international partners and the political pressure on the civil society, have weakened our state and every effort to rehabilitate the victims of this traffic”, Rama declared.

The Albanian Prime Minister declared that the government will coordinate the justice institutions with the police, through the National Bureau of Investigation that will be established in the upcoming days, as an important institution that has been absent so far.

The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, appealed the society to react against the crime that is considered as the most sophisticated.

“Today we declare war to the traffick of human beings and whoever that stands behind this crime that enslaves life, as we declare war to every criminal asset or asset that the crime slave owners are enjoying today from their victims”, Tahiri declared.

Ettore Sequi, Ambassador of the European Union; the Second Person in charge at the United States Embassy in Tirana and the OSCE Ambassador greeted the government’s commitment to bring Albania out of this list, after underlining that the stopping of human traffic in Albania it is very important for the west.
