Stefanovic: Property issues impeding dialogue

Head of the Serbian negotiation team, Borko Stefanovic, declared that
the application for property rights is the biggest obstacle in the
dialogue Serbia-Kosovo.
According to Stefanovic, for reactivating the property rights, a real problem is the issue with the cadastre and the unification of two different cadastral systems.
He underlined that the Kosovo cadastre has problematic data, and that in 11 years, 7.7 percent of property issues have been solved without the participation of the state.
It is important to create a mechanism that could enable people to apply their rights, regardless the country they support”, Stefanovic declared.
He added that one of the elements that make difficult the solution of this issue is the fact that many residents have left their homes during the war and their properties have been taken by others.
