The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared at a Socialist Party
meeting one day before the progress report which will show if Albania
has fulfilled the conditions for the candidate status, that Albania
should have received the candidate status since December.
“Failing with the status was not good for our country or for the region. If this report confirms that we have fulfilled the requests, it means that we have done our duty. The decision is up to the member countries”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister underlined that Albania has progressed in several areas. “There’s no reason to doubt, and the progress report will be clear for what we know that we have done in these months. The results against the organized crime and corruption are tangible, but the fight against corruption cannot be done without a justice system that is up for the challenge. We have a clear justice reform to transform this system. The State High School Graduation Exam was a success story for this year. The citizens are profiting from the justice reforms. There is still a lot to do, but we are on the right path”, Rama declared.
“I mentioned this to show that the front work is wider than the topics that have been dominated by agendas which are different from that of the Albanian people, due to an unproductive approach of the opposition, and the work that we have done together inside and outside the Parliament”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister valued the work of the Investigative Commission for the drug traffic. “For the first time the commission was able to justify the taxpayers’ money with a concrete product based on facts that weren’t just smoke, as it has happened in the past”.
