Status, not complete

Although the European Commission recommendation about Albania’s
candidate status was given one week ago, the final decision will be
taken this December.

“The candidate status is possible for this December, but not definitive, because we consider the recommendation as an encouragement for further reforms in studying the rule of law, and not medals or trophies”, Bushati declared.

The Head of the Albanian diplomacy, Ditmir Bushati, released this declaration in the conference organized by the Albanian Academy of Arts and Sciences, to introduce the new diplomatic stances.

Bushati declared that the increased influence of Albania in the region has already been included in the official agenda.

“The rights of the Albanians in Macedonia, Montenegro, the Presheva Valley, are a constant priority of our foreign policy in the region. We are the first government that has included the Cham case in the agenda, by respecting the international standards. The main priority will be given to the diplomacy of the energy sector, especially after signing the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, which will be a project of peace and economic and social transformation”, Bushati declared.

Diplomat Fatos Tarifa greeted the fact that our government considered Turkey a strategic partner, since it has strongly supported Albania and Kosovo in the past 20 years. Greece, despite being a neighbor, has turned into a strategic rival by not showing reciprocity with Albania and by not recognizing the independence of Kosovo.

“Unfortunately, Greece doesn’t have this quality. As a neighbor country, I would have doubts about the fact of considering Greece a strategic partner of Albania”, Fatos Tarifa declared.

“Although it is not declared, Greece is still keeping in power the so-called ‘war law’ between the two countries. The Albanian relations with Greece are far from being considered excellent, as declared one week ago by the Greek Foreign Minister, during a visit in Albania”, declared the historian Paskal Milo.

Paskal Milo also added that the “macedonization” of the relations are not what Greece or Albania need in a time of deep economic crisis, and Albania doesn’t need someone to block its integration.

Minister Bushati declared that the success of Albania’s foreign policy first of all depends from the success of the interior policy.
