Estonia, with a population fewer than 1 million, the country where Skype
was developed as one of the best web communication platforms, is
looking for an intensification of the relations with Albania.
“The relations between the two countries are good, but there is the opportunity to extend them”, declared in an interview for Top Channel the Estonian Ambassador to Greece, Margus Rava, who also covers our country.
Rava says that our countries are small and in two different points in Europe, and this makes Estonians and Albanians not know much about each other. For this to change, the Ambassador says that there is much work to do so that the contacts between the two people may be intensified.
As one of the European Union members, Estonia is part of the skeptic group for voting Albania’s candidate status.
“What I can say is that our colleagues in Tallin are studying the situation and what the European Commission is saying. Then we will decide to be ready for the decision in the December’s meeting. For the moment we haven’t taken any decision yet. In general, Estonia favors the enlargement policies, since they have resulted effective. Those countries which have shown clear progress in their efforts to reach the European values, should take the possibility to undertake other steps towards the European Union. In this point of view, we are seeing the progress-report and the recommendations of the Commission for Albania and decide if your country has made the necessary progress that will allow us to vote in favor of the candidate status”, Rava declared.
There are good chances, according to the Ambassador, for more economic cooperation with Albania in what is known as E-government, computing and cooperation about issues that are related with the border safety, something that should extend in other fields.
