State leaders and artists gather for final goodbye to one of Albania’s best literary authors, Dritero Agolli, who died at 85.

The funeral was held today at the Palace of Congresses. Present in the ceremony organized by the state were famous authors such as Ismail Kadare, Bardhyl Londo, Xhevahir Spahiu and also songwriters such as Limoz Dizdari, Ali Aliu, Rexhep Ismajli, Luan Starova, etc.

Dritero Agolli was born in Menkulas, Devoll, Korca. After secondary school he attended the Gjirokastra high school, which was known for a long tradition of quality.

He graduated literature from the Saint Petersburg university, Russia, then worked for several years as journalist of the daily “Zeri i Popullit”.  Agolli led the League of Artists and Writers for many years, and left behind a long list of much loved works.

Agolli was author to many poems, novels, short stories and screenplays which made him win several awards. His works have been translated to several languages.

His most famous novels were “Komisari Memo” (1969), “Njeriu me Top”, (1975), “Shkelqimi dhe Renia e Shokut Zylo”, (1973), etc.
