The Supreme State Audit says the Albanian government pays an average of 20 million USD a year for public employees who are wrongfully fired.
Azmi Stringa, frm the Budget Auditing Department at the SSA, said that the concerning part is that the figure is constant, each year.
And that may not be all. Despite the annual payment, there are many accumulated cases which could take the real number to scary levels.
Open Data Albania, an NGO, said that the state budget has paid more than 80 million USD in the past four years.
And when the court rules to have these employees returned, the institutions don’t hire them back, according to Stringa, despite the fact that they do have vacancies.
