State Audit: “National Food Authority full of flaws, political appointees”

09/10/2017 00:00

A report of the Supreme State Audit, published two months ago, stated
that the National Food Authority does not guarantee food safet.

SSA verified a series of violations and legal irregularities, which have damaged the food quality with social and economic consequences.

SSA asys that the damaged food quality starts with legal gaps of law that passed nine years ago, but that has not been completed yet with its necessary sub-legal acts.

The National Food Authority itself operates without an internal regulation, according to the report, and they don’t have an accurate database for companies that import food products.

In parallel, the SSA states that the frequent moves of its leaders and politically appointees have filled the institutions with inspectors who have nothing to do with food safety.

The report gives 22 recommendations for the way how NFA should operate to take under control the food safety situation in our country.
