Colonel Ylli Zyla, former Director of the Army Secret Service, says that the presence of the marine expert, Artur Mecollari, at the Albanian negotiating group for the maritime border agreement with Greece, is a risk for Albania’s national security.
“As former Director of the Army Secret Service I can say that he is not suitable for being part of the negotiation group. Professional ethics doesn’t allow me to say more, but the President has the opportunity to understand why he is not suitable. His participation in the commission would damage the national security since such agreements are done once in a lifetime, not every day”, Ylli Zyla declared.
It seems that the reason why Mecollari is being considered unsuitable is due to his close relations with Greece. Top Channel contacted the President, and his spokesperson, Tedi Blushi, said that President Meta is reviewing the material sent by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs with great care.
Te Foreign Ministry said for Top Channel that Mecollari has been recommended for having good knowledge on the case. He has studied marine laws and has received the NATO Cosmic security certificate, which is the highest level.
Mr.Mecollari himself was not available for further details. Sources from the Ministry of Defense say that Mecollari’s suspension order was cancelled by the Court, and there is no obstacle for him to become part of the negotiating group.
